Can Trauma Be Scored?
Here is a simple questionnaire you can fill out to see where your symptoms put you on a standardized scale of PTSD. Click on the button to download the self-test. Then come back and score yourself using the guidelines below.
Scoring the PCL
Responses of 3 or higher are considered symptomatic and responses of 1 or 2 are considered non-symptomatic. Did you have a symptomatic response to at least 1 "B" item (questions 1-5)? Did you have a symptomatic response to at least 3 "C" items (questions 6-12)? And did you have a symptomatic response to at least 2 "D" items (questions 13-17)? If you answered "yes" to all these, then a diagnosis of PTSD is not out of the question.
So what? Are you a diagnosis or are you an individual with a difficult history? Is impairment another word for complexity? If you'd like to bring your test with you when you come to see me, we can use it to provide helpful information in formulating a treatment plan.
